Cardiac Stress Test

Also known as an "ergometry", this is a diagnostic test that shows how the heart behaves during physical activity. It involves reaching a peak level of physical effort in order to detect any potential problems with blood flow inside the heart.

During the test, the patient walks on a treadmill while heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing are monitored. Small metal discs called “electrodes” are placed on the chest. These are connected to wires called “leads”, which are then connected to a computer that records the heart’s electrical activity (ECG).

This test helps diagnose coronary artery disease, heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmias), and also helps guide the treatment of heart conditions.
